<div><p><em>Theme: The certainty and weight of the Last Event</em></p><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Quran Verses</strong></h3><blockquote><a href="https://quran.com/56/1-6">56:1–6</a></blockquote><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Lesson &amp; Reflection</strong></h3><p dir="ltr">The opening of Surah Al-Waqi'ah begins with a declaration of certainty: “When the Inevitable Event takes place, then no one can deny it has come.”</p><p dir="ltr">Allah does not say <em>if</em> this event occurs. He says <em>when</em>. The Day of Resurrection is not a possibility or a distant idea. It is a reality that every human being will witness. The name <em>Al-Waqi'ah</em> itself refers to the Event that will certainly come to pass.</p><p dir="ltr">Allah then says: “It will debase ˹some˺ and elevate ˹others˺.”</p><p dir="ltr">On that Day, the standards by which people measured success in this world will no longer matter. Wealth, status, reputation, and power will not benefit a person unless they were accompanied by faith and righteous deeds. Those who humbled themselves before Allah may be raised in rank, while those who were arrogant and heedless may find themselves disgraced. It is a day in which true accountability will take place, and each soul shall be met with what it earned. May Allah make us among those who are blessed with an easy and swift reckoning. Amen</p><p dir="ltr">The surah then describes the violent shaking of the earth and the crushing of the mountains until they become scattered dust. Mountains are among the strongest and most stable features on Earth. Yet Allah reminds us that even they will crumble when His command comes. If mountains cannot remain, how can we place our trust in the temporary things of this world?&nbsp; Other verses in the Quran describe the fact that the very mountains which we see as so formidable and strong will pass by like clouds:</p><p dir="ltr">“Now you see the mountains, thinking they are firmly fixed, but they are travelling ˹just˺ like clouds. ˹That is˺ the design of Allah, Who has perfected everything. Surely He is All-Aware of what you do. (Quran: 27:88)</p><p dir="ltr">The early verses of this surah call the believer to reflect deeply. Life often feels permanent when routines are familiar and days pass quickly. Yet these verses pull back the curtain and remind us that this world is only a temporary stage before the greater reality of the Hereafter.</p><p dir="ltr">Classical scholars mention that these verses are a warning to the heedless and a reminder for the believer. They encourage us to evaluate our priorities before the Day arrives when deeds are weighed, and truths are fully revealed. Every passing day brings us closer to the meeting with Allah. The wise person prepares for that meeting while there is still time.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Takeaway:</strong></p><p dir="ltr">The certainty of the Last Day helps a believer see the world as it truly is: temporary, passing, and not worthy of being placed above obedience to Allah. When the Hereafter becomes real in the heart, priorities begin to change, and actions become more purposeful. This surah helps us overcome the delusion of life and removes our sense of misplaced security in it.&nbsp;</p><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Hadith</strong></h3><p dir="ltr">Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) as saying: Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, will take in His grip the Earth on the Day of Judgment, and He will roll up the sky in His right hand and will say: ‘I am the Lord; where are the sovereigns of the world?’</p><p dir="ltr">(Sahih Muslim 2787)</p><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Practical Activity</strong></h3><p dir="ltr">In one of your prayers today, recite the opening verses of Surah Al-Waqi'ah slowly and attentively. When you recite the words:</p><p dir="ltr">"When the Inevitable Event takes place..." pause briefly and reflect on the certainty of the Day of Resurrection and your meeting with Allah. Then renew your intention to spend the remainder of your day in a way that would please Him.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>How it helps:</strong></p><ul><li class="prosemirror-flat-list" data-list-kind="bullet"><p dir="ltr">Strengthens remembrance of the Hereafter.</p></li><li class="prosemirror-flat-list" data-list-kind="bullet"><p dir="ltr">Encourages sincere self-accountability.</p></li><li class="prosemirror-flat-list" data-list-kind="bullet"><p dir="ltr">Helps align daily actions with eternal priorities.</p></li></ul><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Dua</strong></h3><h2 dir="ltr"><strong>اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْجَنَّةَ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ النَّارِ</strong></h2><p dir="ltr">&nbsp;Allāhumma innī as'aluka al-jannah wa aʿūdhu bika mina al-nār.<strong><br></strong> O Allah, I ask You for Paradise and seek refuge in You from the Fire.</p><p dir="ltr">(Sunan Abi Dawud 792)</p><p dir="ltr">This ties directly into remembering the Last Day and preparing for what comes after it.</p><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Reflection Question</strong></h3><p dir="ltr">If you knew that tomorrow would be your final day before standing before Allah, what is one habit you would abandon or one act of obedience you would begin today?</p><p dir="ltr">This keeps the focus on preparation for the Hereafter while remaining practical and spiritually grounded.</p></div>

When the Event Occurs

<p><em>Theme: Nearness to Allah and the qualities of those who excel in faith</em></p><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Quran Verses</strong></h3><blockquote><a href="https://quran.com/56/7-23">56:7–23</a></blockquote><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Lesson &amp; Reflection</strong></h3><p dir="ltr">After describing the certainty of the resurrection, Surah Al-Waqi'ah turns to the outcome awaiting humanity on that Day. Every person will belong to one of three groups: the people of the right, the people of the left, and the foremost.</p><p dir="ltr">The people of the right are the successful believers. The people of the left are those destined for punishment because of their disbelief and rebellion against Allah. Yet before describing either group in detail, Allah draws special attention to a select group: “The foremost ˹in faith˺ will be the foremost ˹in Paradise˺.”</p><p dir="ltr">The repetition highlights their distinction and honor. They are known as As-Sabiqun - those who race ahead in obedience, sincerity, and devotion to Allah.</p><p dir="ltr">Classical scholars explain that this description includes those who responded quickly to the truth and consistently pursued what pleases Allah. While the earliest examples include the righteous believers from the first generations of Islam, the meaning is not limited to them. In every generation, there are believers who strive to excel in worship, repentance, generosity, and good character. Imam Ibn Kathir comments on the verse, saying, “Whoever hastens in this worldly life and takes the lead in doing good will, in the Hereafter, be among those who are foremost in receiving honour. For indeed, the recompense is of the same nature as the deed, and as you act, so shall you be treated.” (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)</p><p dir="ltr">Their defining quality is eagerness to obey Allah. They do not postpone acts of worship when opportunities arise. They seek Allah's pleasure and compete in righteousness, knowing that every moment of life is an opportunity to draw closer to Him.</p><p dir="ltr">Allah describes these believers as those who are brought near. This nearness is a special honor granted by Allah to His most devoted servants. It reflects their elevated status and the tremendous reward prepared for them in the Hereafter.</p><p dir="ltr">The verses then paint a picture of the blessings awaiting them in Paradise: comfort without hardship, joy without sorrow, and provisions without limitation. Every reward described reflects the perfection of the Hereafter, where nothing fades, spoils, or disappoints.</p><p dir="ltr">The mention of a multitude from earlier generations and a few from later generations should motivate us rather than discourage us. These verses remind us that true excellence is rare, but the door to striving remains open. The path of the foremost has never been restricted to a particular time or people. It remains open to every believer who sincerely seeks Allah's pleasure.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Takeaway:</strong></p><p dir="ltr">The path of the foremost is built upon sincere faith, consistent obedience, and a readiness to respond when Allah opens a door to good. Every act done sincerely for His sake is a step toward becoming among those brought near to Him.</p><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Hadith</strong></h3><p dir="ltr">The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:</p><p dir="ltr">“We are the last, yet we will be the first on the Day of Resurrection…”</p><p dir="ltr">(Sahih Muslim 855)</p><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Practical Activity</strong></h3><p dir="ltr">Today, choose one opportunity for obedience and act upon it immediately. Whether it is giving charity, praying an extra prayer, helping someone in need, or making sincere repentance, do not delay. The Foremost

<div><p><em>Theme: The joy, peace, and eternal security prepared for the people of faith</em></p><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Quran Verses</strong></h3><blockquote><a href="https://quran.com/56/27-33">56:27–33</a></blockquote><blockquote><a href="https://quran.com/56/34-38">56:34–38</a></blockquote><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Lesson &amp; Reflection</strong></h3><p dir="ltr">After describing the foremost believers, Surah Al-Waqi'ah turns to the people of the right. These are the believers whom Allah grants success, who receive their records in their right hands and are admitted into Paradise by His mercy. The verses begin with a statement of honor: “And those on the right - how blessed are those on the right.”</p><p dir="ltr">The repetition here emphasizes their success and happiness. Their condition is so magnificent that ordinary descriptions seem insufficient to capture it fully.</p><p dir="ltr">Allah then describes some of the blessings awaiting them. There are thornless lote trees, layered banana trees, extended shade, flowing water, and abundant fruit that is never unavailable and never restricted. These are not merely reminders of worldly comforts. They are real blessings of Paradise, perfected beyond anything found in this life.</p><p dir="ltr">In this world, every pleasure is accompanied by some limitation. Fruit spoils, shade disappears, comfort fades, and beauty changes with time. In Paradise, Allah removes every imperfection. Its delights never diminish, and its residents never fear losing what they have been given.</p><p dir="ltr">The description continues with raised couches and noble companionship. Allah describes the companions of Paradise as part of the honor, comfort, and happiness prepared for the righteous. Every blessing in Paradise reflects Allah's generosity toward those who believed in Him and obeyed Him.</p><p dir="ltr">Perhaps one of the most comforting aspects of these verses is their sense of true security. The people of Paradise are no longer worried about loss, hardship, illness, aging, separation, or death. The struggles of worldly life have ended, replaced by lasting peace and contentment.</p><p dir="ltr">These verses remind us that Allah does not overlook even the smallest sincere deed. Every prayer offered for His sake, every temptation resisted, every act of patience, and every sincere repentance is known to Him. The rewards He has prepared are far greater than the efforts made to attain them.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Takeaway:</strong></p><p dir="ltr">The people of the right are not defined by perfection but by sincere faith and obedience. Their reward reminds us that every sacrifice made for Allah is worthwhile, and that the lasting joy of the Hereafter far surpasses the temporary comforts of this world.</p><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Hadith</strong></h3><p dir="ltr">The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:</p><p dir="ltr">Allah will say to the people of Paradise: "O people of Paradise!" They will say: "At Your service, our Lord, and all good is in Your Hand." He will ask: "Are you pleased?" They will reply: "Why should we not be pleased when You have given us what You have not given to anyone else of Your creation?" He will say: "Shall I not give you something better than that?" They will ask: "What could be better than that?" He will say: "I bestow My pleasure upon you, and I will never be displeased with you after this."</p><p dir="ltr">(Sahih al-Bukhari 7518; Sahih Muslim 2829)<br><br>SubhanAllah, how profound and moving is this blessing! May Allah make us among those who experience this reward. Amen!</p><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Practical Activity</strong></h3><p dir="ltr">Before sleeping tonight, take a few moments to remember one sincere act of obedience you performed today, even if it seemed small. Thank Allah for allowing you to perform it and ask Him to accept it. The People of the Right

<div><p><em>Theme: The consequences of denial, heedlessness, and persistent sin</em></p><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Quran Verses</strong></h3><blockquote><a href="https://quran.com/56/41-55">56:41–55</a></blockquote><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Lesson &amp; Reflection</strong></h3><p dir="ltr">After describing the blessings of the people of the right, Surah Al-Waqi'ah turns to the condition of the people of the left. The contrast is deliberate. The same Day that brings joy to some will bring regret and punishment to others.</p><p dir="ltr">Allah describes scorching heat, boiling water, and dark smoke that provides no comfort or relief. Every image emphasizes hardship rather than rest, and suffering rather than peace. May Allah save us from such an ordeal. Amen</p><p dir="ltr">The Quran then explains some of the reasons behind their condition. These people lived in luxury, persisted in grave sin and rebellion against Allah, and denied the reality of resurrection. When they were reminded that they would one day stand before Allah, they responded with mockery rather than reflection.</p><p dir="ltr">Their questions were not sincere attempts to understand the truth. They were expressions of denial and rejection. Allah answers them clearly: every generation, from the first to the last, will be gathered for an appointed Day.</p><p dir="ltr">The verses then describe the punishment awaiting them. Allah mentions the tree of Zaqqoom, a real punishment prepared for the inhabitants of Hell. Even their food and drink become sources of suffering rather than nourishment.</p><p dir="ltr">These verses are not meant to drive the believer to despair. Rather, they serve as a warning and a reminder. Allah informs us of these realities so that we may turn back to Him before the Day arrives. The believer responds to such verses with humility, repentance, and renewed commitment to obedience.</p><p dir="ltr">One of the lessons found in these verses is that worldly comfort can become a trial if it causes a person to forget Allah. Wealth, status, entertainment, and ease are blessings when they increase gratitude, but they become dangerous when they lead to heedlessness and arrogance.</p><p dir="ltr">The people of the left did not arrive at their destination suddenly. Their condition was the result of choices made repeatedly over time. This serves as a reminder to guard our hearts, seek forgiveness often, and remain mindful of the meeting with Allah. Through denial and arrogance, they sowed the very seeds for their own suffering.&nbsp;</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Takeaway:</strong></p><p dir="ltr">The path to destruction begins when a person allows comfort, sin, and heedlessness to distance them from faith, gratitude, and obedience to Allah. A believer protects himself by remembering Allah, seeking forgiveness, and preparing for the Hereafter before it is too late.</p><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Hadith</strong></h3><p dir="ltr">The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:</p><p dir="ltr">“The least punished of the people of the Fire will be a man who will have two sandals and two straps of fire, causing his brain to boil as a cooking pot boils.”<br>(Sahih al-Bukhari 6562; Sahih Muslim 213)</p><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Practical Activity</strong></h3><p dir="ltr">Before enjoying a blessing today - whether food, rest, family, shelter, or another comfort - pause briefly and say Alhamdulillah, then consciously remember that the blessing came from Allah and ask Him to help you use it in ways that please Him.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>How it helps:</strong></p><ul><li class="prosemirror-flat-list" data-list-kind="bullet"><p dir="ltr">Strengthens gratitude.</p></li><li class="prosemirror-flat-list" data-list-kind="bullet"><p dir="ltr">Protects the heart from entitlement.</p></li><li class="prosemirror-flat-list" data-list-kind="bullet"><p dir="ltr">Turns everyday blessings into opportunities for worship.</p></li></ul><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Dua</strong></h3><h2 dir="ltr"><strong>اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ لَا يَنْفَعُ وَمِنْ قَلْبٍ لَا يَخْشَعُ وَمِنْ نَفْسٍ لَا تَشْبَعُ وَمِنْ دُعَاءٍ لَا يُسْمَعُ</strong></h2><p dir="ltr">Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika min ʿilmin lā yanfaʿ, wa min qalbin lā yakhshaʿ, wa min nafsin lā tashbaʿ, wa min duʿā'in lā yusmaʿ.</p><p dir="ltr">O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that does not humble itself, from a soul that is never satisfied, and from a supplication that is not answered.</p><p dir="ltr">(Sahih Muslim 2722)</p><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Reflection Question</strong></h3><p dir="ltr">Are there blessings in your life that increase your gratitude to Allah, or have any of them begun to distract you from remembering Him?</p></div>

The People of the Left

<p><em>Theme: The signs of Allah's power in life, death, water, and fire</em></p><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Quran Verses</strong></h3><blockquote><a href="https://quran.com/56/57-73">56:57–73</a></blockquote><h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Lesson &amp; Reflection</strong></h3><p dir="ltr">After describing the people of Paradise and the people of Hell, Surah Al-Waqi'ah presents a series of signs that point to Allah's power and the certainty of resurrection. Allah directs our attention to things we encounter every day. Rather than presenting distant or hidden signs, He calls us to reflect on realities that surround us constantly.</p><p dir="ltr">The first sign is our own creation. Every human being began from a small and humble origin. None of us created ourselves, chose our appearance, or determined the circumstances of our birth. Allah reminds us that the One who created us the first time is fully capable of bringing us back to life after death.</p><p dir="ltr">The verses then turn to the crops that grow from the earth. People plant seeds and work the land, but they do not create the life within the seed. Allah alone causes growth to occur. The growth of plants serves as one of the many signs Allah points to as evidence of His ability to resurrect the dead.<br>Next comes water. Every living creature depends upon it, yet Allah alone sends it down from the clouds. Allah reminds us that if He willed, He could make the water intensely salty, bitter, and unusable. This sign teaches gratitude and reminds us that even the most basic of the necessities of life remain entirely dependent upon His mercy.</p><p dir="ltr">The final sign is fire. Fire provides warmth, light, and countless benefits, yet its existence is also a reminder of Allah's power. The same fire that benefits people can also become a source of destruction. Allah describes it as both a provision and a reminder.</p><p dir="ltr">Each of these questions calls the believer to reflect. Creation, growth, water, and fire all testify to Allah's wisdom, power, and authority. They remind us that resurrection is not difficult for the One who created and sustains everything we see around us.</p><p dir="ltr"><strong>Takeaway:</strong></p><p dir="ltr">The signs of Allah's power are present throughout creation. If human beings truly possessed ultimate control, they would be able to return the soul after it departs. Yet every person eventually reaches a moment where worldly power, wealth, status, and strength can no longer help. At that moment, the realities of the Hereafter begin to unfold.</p><p dir="ltr">Allah once again divides humanity into three groups. Those brought near to Allah receive serenity, fragrance, and glad tidings of the reward prepared for them. The people of the right are greeted with peace and reassurance. The misguided deniers, however, face a very different reception, one marked by punishment and regret.</p><p dir="ltr">The surah ends with a powerful declaration: “Indeed, this is the absolute truth.”</p><p dir="ltr">After describing resurrection, judgment, Paradise, Hell, creation, revelation, and death, Allah leaves the reader with certainty.
