Surah Al-Ikhlas begins with a declaration that sits at the heart of Islam: “Say, ‘He is Allah - One.’”
The word Aḥad is profound. Allah is not merely one in number. He is uniquely One. Without a partner. Without an equal. Without any rival. Without anything comparable to Him.
Everything else in creation shares qualities, limitations, and needs with other created things. Allah alone stands completely unique and perfect. This truth changes more than a person's theology. It changes the way they live.
When Allah is truly understood as the One, the heart begins to gather around a single center. One Lord to worship. He is the Lord to obey. He is the Lord to trust. He alone is the Lord to fear. He is the only Lord to hope in. He is the Lord to love above all else.
Many of the struggles people experience internally come from divided loyalties and competing priorities. The heart becomes pulled in different directions. One concern pulls it here. Another pulls it there. The believer is often distracted by countless demands and attachments. Tawhid brings order to that confusion. It gives the heart a single ultimate reference point.
This does not mean that family, work, responsibilities, and worldly concerns disappear. Rather, they find their proper place beneath devotion to Allah. Everything becomes connected to one greater purpose.
This is one of the blessings of Tawhid. It brings clarity of purpose and steadiness to the heart, even during life’s trials. The believer no longer needs to seek ultimate fulfillment, approval, security, or meaning from creation. Those things belong to Allah alone. The more deeply a person understands: “He is Allah - One,” the more stable the heart becomes. Because when the heart has one ultimate center, everything else begins to settle into its proper place.

Hadith
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said regarding a man who frequently recited Surah Al-Ikhlas:
“Tell him that Allah loves him.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 7375)
Practical Activity
Throughout the day, notice what most strongly affects your emotions. What excites you? What worries you? What occupies your thoughts? When you notice something competing for the center of your heart, quietly say:
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ
Lā ilāha illa Allah There is no god worthy of worship except Allah.
Reflect on what it means to return your heart's ultimate dependence to Allah alone.

Strengthens awareness of hidden attachments.
Recenters the heart upon Allah.
Turns Tawhid into a lived reality rather than an abstract concept.
Builds emotional stability through dependence upon Allah.

Arabic
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ حُبَّكَ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ نَفْسِي وَأَهْلِي وَمِنَ الْمَاءِ الْبَارِدِ
Transliteration
Allāhumma-jʿal ḥubbaka aḥabba ilayya min nafsī wa ahlī wa minal-mā'il-bārid.
Translation
O Allah, make Your love more beloved to me than myself, my family, and cold water.
