Day 5: The Truth
Theme: Faith is strengthened when believers encourage one another upon the truth

Lesson & Reflection
After mentioning faith and righteous deeds, Allah introduces a third condition for escaping loss: “And urge each other to the truth.”
This marks an important shift in the surah. Faith begins within the individual. Righteous deeds are performed by the individual. But truth must be shared.
The word tawāṣaw carries the meaning of mutual encouragement, advice, and sincere counsel. It is not a one-sided lecture. It is believers helping one another remain firm upon what is right.
This teaches us something important about Islam: No one was meant to travel the path to Allah completely alone. Believers need reminders. They need encouragement. They need people who help them remember Allah when they forget and return to Him when they drift.
The truth (al-ḥaqq) mentioned here includes faith, revelation, sincerity, justice, obedience to Allah, and the reality of the Hereafter. It is everything that Allah has revealed as guidance. The scholars explain that believers are responsible not only for accepting the truth themselves, but also for encouraging others to remain upon it.
This requires wisdom, compassion, humility, and sincerity. The goal is not to win arguments. The goal is to help one another reach Allah. One of the beautiful lessons of this verse is that salvation in Surah Al-'Asr is not entirely individual.
A believer seeks their own salvation, but they also care about the salvation of others. They want good for their family, friends, community, and fellow Muslims. They remind others because they themselves want to be reminded. They encourage others because they themselves need encouragement. This creates a community built upon sincere concern rather than judgment. The prophets who were sent throughout the ages were sent for this very purpose.
The believer, therefore, asks two questions:
Am I accepting the truth when it reaches me?
And am I helping others remain firm upon it?
The people who escape loss are not only those who know the truth. They are people who actively support one another in living by it.

Truth is not meant to remain hidden within the heart. Believers protect it, live by it, and help one another remain firm upon it through sincere advice and encouragement.
Hadith
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
“The believer to another believer is like the bricks of a wall; each one supports the other.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 481; Sahih Muslim 2585)
Practical Activity
Reach out to one person today with a sincere reminder, encouragement, or dua.
It could be:
Reminding them of Allah's mercy.
Encouraging them in an act of worship.
Sharing a beneficial verse or hadith.
Simply checking on them for the sake of Allah.
Do it seeking Allah's pleasure rather than recognition.
How it helps:
Strengthens bonds of faith.
Encourages sincerity and compassion.
Helps create a community rooted in truth.
