The first reality of faith in the Quran is to believe what the Quran is: it is the speech of Allah.

It is not the speech of an angel, not the speech of a prophet, not the speech of a poet, not the speech of a scholar, and not the speech of any created being. It is Allah’s speech, revealed by Him, sent down as guidance, mercy, light, and proof.

The Quran is the speech of Allah, revealed by Him in both its wording and meaning. Jibril (peace be upon him) did not create it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not compose it. Rather, Jibril (peace be upon him) carried it faithfully, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) received it, recited it, taught it, explained it, and conveyed it to the Ummah.

This chain is a chain of perfect trust.

Allah spoke it → Jibril (peace be upon him) brought it down faithfully → Muhammad (peace be upon him) received it upon his heart and conveyed it truthfully → The Ummah preserved it by recitation, memorization, writing, teaching, and action.

This belief protects the heart from treating the Quran like ordinary speech. When we open the mushaf, we are not reading human reflections or inherited religious literature. We are reading the speech of the Lord of the worlds: the One who created us, owns us, provides for us, knows our secrets, and will return us to Him.

The Quran itself calls its words the words of Allah. Allah says: “so that he may hear the words of Allah.” (Quran 9:6) This gives the Quran its majesty and authority. Human speech may contain errors, weaknesses, contradictions, limitations, and ignorance. But Allah’s speech is truth, justice, wisdom, guidance, and mercy.

Believing that the Quran is Allah’s speech should create reverence. How can the heart be careless with Allah’s words? How can the tongue recite them without presence? How can the servant hear commands from Allah and remain unmoved? How can the Quran be treated as background sound, decoration, or mere habit?

This belief should also create certainty. The Quran is not an opinion among opinions. It is not a cultural text to be judged by changing desires. It is the final revelation from Allah. When the Quran speaks, truth has spoken. When it commands, the believer listens. When it warns, the believer becomes alert. When it promises, the believer hopes. When it comforts, the believer is strengthened.

Faith in the Quran, therefore, begins with reverent recognition: this Book is from Allah, carried by Jibril (peace be upon him), received by Muhammad (peace be upon him), and preserved for this Ummah by the mercy of Allah.

Reflection Question

When I recite the Quran, does my heart remember that I am reciting the speech of Allah?

Action Point

Before your next recitation, pause and say:

Allah revealed this Quran. Jibril (peace be upon him) brought it faithfully. The Prophet (peace be upon him) conveyed it truthfully.

Then recite slowly, even if only a few verses.
